7 Days Tour from Agadir to Merzouga Desert

Day 1: Arrival in Agadir

Welcome to Agadir! On the first day of your 7-day tour from Agadir to the Merzouga Desert, you arrive in this beautiful coastal city in the southwestern region of Morocco. Agadir is known for its beautiful beaches, vibrant markets, and unique architecture.

Visit the Kasbah, a historic fortress built by the Saadian dynasty in the 16th century. The Kasbah offers stunning panoramic views of the city and the Atlantic Ocean. Explore the nearby Souk El Had, the largest market in Agadir, where you can find an array of traditional Moroccan handicrafts, spices, and souvenirs.

Finally, no visit to Agadir is complete without sampling the local cuisine. Try traditional Moroccan dishes such as tagine, couscous, and pastilla at one of the many restaurants in the city. Overnight in the hotel.

Day 2: Agadir to Ouarzazate via Taroudant, Ait Ben-Haddou

On day 2 of your 7-day tour from Agadir to Merzouga Desert, we leave Agadir early in the morning and head to Ouarzazate, a city known as the “Gateway to the Sahara.” Our first stop is Taroudant, a beautiful walled city known for its traditional Berber architecture and vibrant markets.

Have breakfast at a local cafe in Taroudant and explore the city’s narrow streets and alleys, lined with shops selling pottery, jewelry, and spices.

After Taroudant, we continue our journey to Ait Ben-Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most iconic and well-preserved examples of traditional Moroccan architecture.

This ancient fortified village, made of mud and straw, has served as a filming location for many Hollywood movies, including Gladiator and Game of Thrones. Enjoy lunch at a restaurant overlooking the village, then explore its narrow alleys and historic buildings.

From Ait Ben-Haddou, we continue our journey to Ouarzazate, where we spend the night. Ouarzazate is known for its beautiful kasbahs, including the Taourirt Kasbah, which is a must-visit for anyone interested in Moroccan architecture and history.

Have dinner at a local restaurant in Ouarzazate, where you can try traditional Moroccan dishes such as harira soup and lamb tagine.

Day 3: Ouarzazate to Merzouga via Draa Valley

On day 3 of your 7-day tour from Agadir to Merzouga Desert, we’ll leave Ouarzazate and head to Merzouga, a small town on the edge of the Sahara Desert. Along the way, we’ll pass through the Draa Valley, one of the most beautiful and scenic areas of Morocco.

We’ll start the day with breakfast at the hotel in Ouarzazate before heading out on the road. Our first stop will be the Taourirt Kasbah, a beautifully preserved fortress in the heart of Ouarzazate that dates back to the 17th century. We’ll take a guided tour of the kasbah and learn about its history and architecture.

After the kasbah, we’ll drive through the Draa Valley, a stunning landscape of palm groves, oases, and traditional Berber villages. We’ll stop at several points along the way to take in the views and explore the local communities.

For lunch, we’ll stop at a local restaurant in Zagora, a charming town in the heart of the Draa Valley. You can try traditional Moroccan dishes such as tajine and couscous, as well as freshly baked bread and mint tea.

After lunch, we’ll continue our journey to Merzouga, where we’ll arrive in the late afternoon. We’ll check into a local guesthouse and have some time to relax before heading out on a camel trek into the desert to watch the sunset. Dinner will be served at the guesthouse,  where you may savour authentic Moroccan cuisine.

Day 4: Explore the Merzouga Desert

On day 4 of your 7-day tour from Agadir to Merzouga Desert, we’ll spend the day exploring the Merzouga Desert and its surrounding areas. This will be an unforgettable experience as you get to witness the beauty of the vast and endless sand dunes of the Sahara.

Commencing the day, a hearty breakfast at the guesthouse will fuel us for the upcoming adventure: a 4×4 desert expedition. Our journey will lead us through diverse Berber villages, granting us the chance to connect with locals and immerse ourselves in their time-honored customs. A halt at a nomadic family’s encampment will further offer a firsthand encounter with desert living.

After the 4×4 excursion, we’ll have lunch at a local restaurant in Merzouga. You can try traditional Moroccan dishes such as lamb tagine or couscous, or opt for something more familiar.

In the afternoon, we’ll have the opportunity to relax and take in the stunning surroundings. You can opt to take a leisurely stroll on the sand dunes, or perhaps try your hand at sandboarding.

As the sun begins to set, we’ll head out on a camel trek to a traditional Berber campsite where we’ll spend the night. Here, you’ll get to experience the magic of the Sahara Desert as you watch the sunset and the stars come out at night. Dinner will be served at the campsite, where you can enjoy traditional Moroccan dishes such as kefta tagine and mint tea.

Day 5: Merzouga Desert to Dades Valley via Todra Gorges

On day 5 of your 7-day tour from Agadir to Merzouga Desert, we’ll leave Merzouga and head to the Dades Valley, a scenic area known for its stunning landscapes and rugged terrain. Along the way, we’ll stop at the Todra Gorges, a natural wonder that’s a popular destination for rock climbing and hiking.

We’ll start the day with breakfast at the Berber campsite before setting off on our journey. We’ll drive through the stunning landscape of the desert and arrive at the Todra Gorges in the late morning. Here, we’ll have the opportunity to take a guided walk through the gorges and marvel at the towering cliffs and crystal-clear waters.

After exploring the Todra Gorges, we’ll continue our journey to the Dades Valley. We’ll stop for lunch at a local restaurant in the town of Tinerhir, where you can try traditional Moroccan dishes such as harira soup or grilled chicken with vegetables.

After lunch, we’ll continue our journey through the Dades Valley. The area is known for its stunning rock formations and beautiful landscapes, and we’ll stop at several points along the way to take in the views and explore the local communities.

In the late afternoon, we’ll arrive at our hotel in the Dades Valley, where we’ll check in and have some time to relax. Dinner will be served at the hotel, where you can enjoy traditional Moroccan dishes such as lamb tagine or couscous. Overnight in the hotel.

Day 6: Dades Valley, Taliouine and Agadir

On day 6 of your 7-day tour from Agadir to Merzouga Desert, we’ll leave the Dades Valley and head towards the city of Agadir, with a stop in the town of Taliouine along the way. Taliouine is known for its production of saffron, which is a key ingredient in many Moroccan dishes and is widely considered to be the best saffron in the world.

We will depart Dades Gorges today and travel to Agadir. You will, however, tour the highlights of Dades Valley before travelling to Agadir. Then you’ll be driving down the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs, a breathtaking route that winds through communities, palm groves, and breathtaking desert vistas in the Dades Valley between the Atlas Mountains and Anti-Atlas Mountain range.

The trip is breathtaking, lined with hundreds of Kasbahs and passing through villages, palm groves, and the vast Jebel Sarhro lunar scenery to the south. The tourism route offers a varied and spectacular landscape on the kasbahs and is generally asphalted.

The trip delivers a thrilling driving experience with beautiful scenery. These magnificent works of Berber art are unmatched anywhere in the world. Afterwards we’ll take a break and travel to Kalaat M’Gouna (Valley of Roses), where you can buy rose-related products and where a rose festival is held annually in May. We continue on our journey to Skoura’s Amridil Kasbah.

After that, we carry on to Agadir via Taznakht, Ouarzazate, Ait Benhaddou, and Taliouine. Due to its appearance in multiple Hollywood blockbusters, Ait Benhaddou Kasbah, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is the largest and best-known of all Moroccan kasbahs. You’ll be dropped off at your Agadir lodging around evening.

Day 7: Agadir, Airport Transfer

On the final day of your 7-day Agadir to Merzouga Desert tour, we’ll arrange an airport transfer for your departure. Depending on your flight’s timing, you might have free time in Agadir to explore or relax at the hotel.

Agadir boasts beautiful beaches where you can bask in the sun and savor the Mediterranean Sea. The city offers a range of restaurants, cafes, and shops to discover.
