Day 1: Fes – Ifrane – Ziz Valley – Merzouga Desert

Your 2 Days Student Desert Tour starts around 8:00 AM with a departure from your place in Fes.

The first part of the trip takes you to Ifrane, which is often called the “Switzerland of Morocco” because of its mountain-like beauty and fresh mountain air. This is a great place to stop for coffee and take some photos.

Next, you’ll head to Azrou, where you can walk through a cedar forest and see playful Barbary monkeys that live there. The road then takes you up into the Middle Atlas Mountains and to Midelt, known as Morocco’s “apple capital.” You’ll stop here for lunch and take some time to relax.

In the afternoon, the landscape changes as you pass through the Tizi-n-Talghemt Pass, also known as the “Camel Pass.”

From there, you’ll follow the Ziz Valley, which is full of palm trees and old kasbahs. There will be several spots along the way where you can take pictures and enjoy the beautiful scenery before arriving in Merzouga by late afternoon. Once there, your camel and local guide will be waiting to take you into the vast Erg Chebbi dunes.

As the sun sets, the desert looks like a golden and red painting. When you arrive at your desert camp, you’ll have a traditional Moroccan dinner around a campfire. You’ll also listen to Berber drumming under the stars, making for a warm, peaceful and musical evening.

Day 2: Merzouga – Rissani – Erfoud – Ziz Valley – Fes

You’ll wake up early to see a magical sight the sunrise over the Sahara dunes. The first light of day turns the sand into a golden sea. After breakfast at the camp, you’ll ride back by camel (or 4×4) to meet your driver and start the journey back to Fes.

Your first stop is Rissani, the hometown of Morocco’s current royal family. If your visit happens to be on a market day (Tuesday, Thursday, or Sunday), you can explore the lively traditional souk where people trade spices, crafts, and animals, giving you a glimpse into real desert life.

The route then takes you through Erfoud and along the Ziz Valley again, offering more stunning views and peaceful surroundings. You’ll arrive back in Fes by late afternoon or early evening, ending your unforgettable 2 Days Student Desert Tour.
